PRIMARY CARE CLINICIANS

Pride in Sexual Health Mini-Symposium for Primary Care Clinicians

Primary Care clinicians play a critical role in Montgomery County’s Plan to End HIV by 2030. Pride in Sexual Health is a mostly web-based, CME/CEU-backed mini-symposium designed to build primary care clinicians’ knowledge, skills and practice to support early HIV diagnosis, treatment and prevention, all through an LGBTQ-inclusive lens. The series will conclude with a full-day, in-person, facilitated practicum at the Silver Spring Civic Center, where clinicians will have opportunities to practice their new skills with role play, small group discussion, work with standardized patients, and case analysis.

All clinicians are welcome to attend, but CME/CNE will be provided only to those practicing in Montgomery County. Credits will be awarded based on the number of full training modules attended and a completed evaluation.

Cristina Gruta, PharmD, AAHIVP & Erin R Lutes, MS, RN, PHN, CNSTuesday, June

Despite PrEP being available for almost 10 years as a safe and effective way to reduce risk of HIV transmission, many primary care providers do not prescribe it. Providers cite concerns about efficacy, toxicity, side effects, and risk compensation as some of the reasons they do not provide PrEP. In addition, provider stigma and bias about sexual health and drug use create additional barriers for people to access PrEP. Join us for a practical session to increase your confidence in prescribing PrEP!

  • Thursday, June 23rd, 2022 | 12:00pm to 1:00pm | Live, web-based training

Deepen your skills, knowledge and empathy in this listening session with a panel of LGBTQ+ patients discussing their experiences accessing healthcare in Montgomery County. The panel will include experiences of patients living with HIV, patients on PrEP, transgender patients seeking care that affirms their gender, and those seeking family and reproductive services.
